How we allocate Housing in Rushmoor
Our Allocation Scheme
Rushmoor has an Allocation scheme which prioritises applicants based on their housing need. You can see our scheme, the priorities, and process via this link. If, after you have read our scheme policy, you feel you have a housing need, you can apply to join our scheme.
Housing solutions
Whilst the allocation scheme may seem like a solution to a households housing need, for the majority of applicants in the scheme, they will face a siginficant wait, which may mean other options may be more realistic in resolving their housing need. Our scheme aims to prioritise those we deem to have the highest housing needs for social housing. Whilst households in our medium or low priority bands have a housing need, their needs will not be resolved in the short to medium term by our scheme, often facing waits of years before being offered social housing.
Therefore if, after reading our scheme, you feel you are unlikely to be a high priority, you may wish to begin to consider other options as well. These may include:
- Private renting - The private sector offers a wide range of housing to meet the needs of the public. Unlike our allocation scheme, you could consider properties both inside and outside of Rushmoor. You may also be eligible for financial support to help with rental payments
- Mutual exchange - If you are an exisiting social housing tenant, you may be able to exchange your property with another social housing tenant. You should speak to your landlord to see if they allow exchanges, and if they do, you can register on Homeswapper.
- Management moves - If you are a social housing tenant in Rushmoor you may want to contact your landlord to see if they offer management moves. Most social landlords in Rushmoor are able to offer upto 25% of their properties, when available to re-let, for management moves. Your landlord will have their own policy detailing their criteria for a managment move. You will need to contact them directly to understand their policies and processes.
- Help to buy - For some households, you may want to consider if home ownership is an option for you. You can find details of home ownership schemes on the Governments website.

Homelessness
If you are homeless or threatened with homelessness, you may apply for social housing believing this will resolve your need. Whilst homelessness, or the threat of homelessness, is a clear housing need, we will dedicate our focus on supporting you to remain in your existing home, or securing alternative accommodation in the private sector.
